What are the risks of heart surgery?
With every operation there is some risk and this is true with heart surgery. The amount and type of risk is different for each person. Your heart surgeon, cardiologist and family doctor will discuss the risks of surgery with you and your family.

Will my insurance pay the hospital and doctor bills if I have surgery?
Most insurance plans have benefits for heart surgery. Notify your insurance company of your plan for surgery. Ask your insurance company about your benefits including coverage for the hospital and doctors. There will be many doctors involved in your care, such as the surgeon, cardiologist, primary doctor, anesthesiologist, radiologist, and pathologist. Be sure your primary care physician is aware of the date of your surgery. If you have any concerns or questions about insurance coverage, discuss this with your doctor or nurse.

Are surgeries ever postponed?
Your surgery will be postponed if you develop a fever, sore throat, or cold. Your surgery may also be postponed if there is an emergency surgery that needs to be done. The surgical team will do their best to keep your scheduled time. You will be informed promptly if there is a delay. Should a delay occur, we will arrange an alternate date/time that best suits your needs. We realize the stress caused by these delays, and will postpone your operation only when absolutely necessary.
